Access up to 50% of your FGTS amount once a year with this modality
The birthday withdrawal is a new form of withdrawal that the government has allowed workers to have.
From it, you can access a good amount of your guarantee fund every year without having to justify the use.
That way, once a year the worker can earn an extra amount of money and then use it to pay off debts, pay bills or even buy himself a special birthday present!
In the following post, you will learn more about this withdrawal option and you will also be able to analyze whether it is really advantageous.
What is a birthday withdrawal?
In short, the birthday withdrawal is a modality that allows the worker to access a part of his FGTS balance once a year, in the month of his birthday.
It was created from Law 13.932/19 in July 2019 so that several workers in the country can have easy access to their fund balance and can use the money in their main objectives.
Namely, the anniversary withdrawal was born to be another withdrawal option alongside the termination withdrawal, the latter accessed by the worker when he was dismissed without just cause.
In this way, as the birthday withdrawal is an additional option, it is an optional withdrawal alternative that the worker has the right to decide whether or not to adhere to.

How does this benefit work?
Basically, the operation of the birthday withdrawal is very simple. From there, the worker can withdraw a part of his value from his fund and transfer it directly to his bank account.
In principle, to carry out the operation, it is not necessary to say how the money will be used. Just transfer it to your account or withdraw cash and use it however you want.
How much can you receive as a birthday withdrawal?
As for the amount that can be withdrawn, it is important to consider that it all depends on the amount you have in your fund.
Namely, the birthday withdrawal amount is made up of a percentage of your balance plus an additional installment.
To better understand the amounts to be withdrawn, you can check the table below that shows the percentage that can be withdrawn according to the balance range in your guarantee fund.
balance range | Aliquot | additional installment |
Up to R$ 500.00 | 50% | – |
From R$ 501.00 to R$ 1,000.00 | 40% | R$ 50.00 |
From R$ 1,001.00 to R$ 5,000.00 | 30% | R$ 150.00 |
From R$ 5,001.00 to R$ 10,000.00 | 20% | R$ 650.00 |
From R$ 10,001.00 to R$ 15,000.00 | 15% | R$ 1150.00 |
From R$ 15,001.00 to R$ 20,000.00 | 10% | R$ 1,900.00 |
Above R$ 20,001.00 | 5% | R$ 2,900.00 |
To better exemplify, let's assume that you have R$ 500.00 in total value in your fund. That way, when you opt for the birthday withdrawal you will be able to access R$ 250.00.
But, if you have a balance of R$ 3,000.00, you can access R$ 1,050.00, which are made up of R$ 900.00 (30% of R$ 3,000.00) and an additional portion of R$ 150.00.
What is the payout period?
In addition, the withdrawal period for this modality is up to 3 months starting in the month of your birthday. That way, if you were born in December, you can withdraw from December until February.
But, you can also leave the automatic withdrawal payment. In this way, Caixa will automatically transfer the amount of your withdrawal to you in the month of your birthday.
Who is entitled to the benefit?
In summary, the birthday withdrawal is a very accessible modality for many people.
The only requirement you need to meet is to have a balance in your FGTS available for withdrawal. With this, you can join this modality and thus access a portion of the fund once a year.
Is it worth opting for the birthday withdrawal?
As much as the birthday withdrawal is a very interesting feature and offers good benefits, you need to know the pros and cons of joining it.
Therefore, we have separated below the main advantages and disadvantages of the withdrawal for you to know it better.
Benefits
The birthday withdrawal has several interesting advantages for you to access. With it, every year you earn extra money and can use it for different purposes.
In addition, the birthday withdrawal offers access to a credit modality with better conditions. Learn more about her below.
Withdrawal anticipation
Have you ever heard about anticipation of the birthday withdrawal? It is a type of credit offered by several banks that allows you to access future installments of your birthday withdrawal.
Namely, most institutions offer access to 7 to 10 installments of your fund. That way, instead of accessing just a portion of the benefit, you can access the entire amount at once.
In addition, as it is a loan, this operation has built-in interest. But, they are smaller than other types of credit.
Invest in options that yield more
Another advantage of opting for the birthday withdrawal is that you can use the money to invest in higher-yielding bonds!
Namely, the money that stays in your FGTS has a return, but it is very small.
Thus, by opting for this modality, you can access a value from your fund and apply it to options that yield much more!
Use to pay off debts
Finally, you can also use the birthday withdrawal money to pay off debts or even amortize some financing.
That way, it can be used as extra money that helps with monthly bills.
Disadvantages
As much as the birthday withdrawal has several advantages, it can also become a disadvantageous option for some people. See how below.
Time to change mode
The first disadvantage of this modality is that, if the worker regrets and wants to give up that withdrawal, he will need to wait a period to dispose of it.
So, if you regret it, you can only change the withdrawal mode after two years with it.
Your fund will be limited
Finally, when opting for the birthday withdrawal, the total balance of your account will be compromised in cases of dismissal without just cause.
In the termination-withdrawal, the worker who was dismissed without just cause could access the total value of the fund plus the termination fines.
However, those who opt for the birthday withdrawal can only access the 40% fine and other rights. However, the full amount of the fund cannot be accessed.
How to opt for the birthday withdrawal?
For those who have already considered the pros and cons of this modality and decided to join this withdrawal, know that the process is very simple and can be done online.
Therefore, you just need to enter the FGTS application, create an account if you don't have one and click on the option to join the birthday withdrawal.
By doing so, the option will be active in your account and you will be able to access the fund's value once a year.
