In Brazil, labor law guarantees several benefits to employees under the CLT. One of them is the PIS/PASEP benefit.
In fact, this benefit raises many doubts and many people do not know whether they can receive it or not.
In general, PIS/PASEP is a kind of fourteenth salary for low-income workers.
With that in mind, in today’s article we’re going to show you all the details about the PIS/Pasep benefit.
Continue reading and discover all the details.
What is PIS/PASEP?
Firstly, PIS is the Social Integration Program and is a program aimed at the private sector.
PASEP (Public Servant Asset Formation Program) is exclusive to public servants.
Therefore, the PIS and PASEP number is used to check the salary bonus and also some other benefits.
For example, the FGTS itself can be consulted using the PIS number.
Furthermore, PIS/Pasep used to function as a type of FGTS. In this sense, it was a contribution from the employer for the time worked by the employee.
Today it is the salary bonus, which, in turn, is a benefit granted only to low-income workers to supplement their salary.
What are the benefits of PIS/PASEP?
In short, the PIS/PASEP benefit is nothing more than a contribution from employers.
But, unlike the FGTS, this collection is not made in individual accounts.
Therefore, the resources go directly to the Worker Support Fund.
In this way, the money is used to pay the salary bonus, unemployment insurance and BNDES development programs.
Furthermore, as we have already mentioned, PIS/PASEP quotas were a contribution for time worked.
Therefore, they worked in a very similar way to the FGTS. In this sense, after 1988, all accounts began to be migrated.
But with the migration, no worker lost their quotas. In other words, they were transferred to individual FGTS accounts.
Finally, the current benefit associated with PIS/PASEP is the salary bonus. Therefore, the calculation is made according to the base year.
In other words, if your base year is 2020, and you have worked every month of that year, you will receive the full benefit.
In fact, the value of the salary bonus is proportional to the established minimum wage. Therefore, anyone who works for 12 months receives a full minimum wage.
Who is entitled to assistance?
In short, to receive PIS/PASEP benefits, you must be registered in the program.
However, unlike what many people think, this registration is the employer's own responsibility.
In other words, registration is done at the time of hiring. Below we will list all the criteria for receiving PIS/PASEP. Check it out:
- Have been registered with PIS/PASEP for at least 5 years;
- Having received an average remuneration of up to two minimum wages;
- Worked at least 30 days for a legal entity in the base year;
- Have the data in the Annual Social Information Report or in eSocial (employer's responsibility).
Furthermore, when we talk about receiving quotas for 1971 to 1988, the rules are different.
Especially because the amount is only granted to those who worked in a registered manner at that time. See the conditions below:
- people over 60 years of age;
- retirees;
- in the case of military personnel, people transferred to paid reserve;
- people with disability;
- elderly people with disabilities;
- carriers of some serious diseases, such as Cancer, AIDS and others listed in the specific ordinance.

Finally, it is very simple to find out whether or not you will receive the PIS/PASEP benefit. As we have already mentioned, the amounts are collected for the Salary Bonus fund.
Therefore, you just need to check whether you are eligible for the benefit. To do this, the government has made it possible to check your status via the digital work card app.
