Learn how to find out your FGTS balance that can be withdrawn!
Basically, the FGTS does this with workers as a measure to keep the money saved to be used by the beneficiary as an emergency reserve in case of future layoffs.
But, many people may be in a situation where they need to use that idle money. Therefore, in the following post, you will learn more about retained FGTS and how you can withdraw it.
How does the FGTS work?
In short, FGTS is the acronym for Severance Pay Fund. In this way, it is basically a benefit that every person who works with a formal contract is entitled to.
From it, about 8% of the worker's salary is added to his fund by the contracting company. But, the value can change in two special situations:
- For those who work as young apprentices, the amount to be collected is 2% of their salary;
- For those who work as maids, the amount to be collected is 11.2% of their salary.
This way, the worker can use that money in the future to cover some emergency expenses. But, for this, it is essential that you know the value of your FGTS balance beforehand.
How to consult the FGTS withheld by the website
Basically, to know the value of your balance you need to check your retained FGTS. And you can carry out this process from the FGTS website itself. To do so, just follow the steps below:
- Enter the website and enter your PIS number;
- Click on “Register Password” and then read and accept the regulation;
- After that, you can already fill in the registration with your personal data;
- In the end, you will create a password of up to 8 digits.
That way, when you finish these steps, you will receive an email or SMS confirming the registration. Thus, you can access the site with your password and check your retained FGTS balance.
How to consult the FGTS withheld by the application
Another way to consult your retained FGTS is from the FGTS own application. To do this, just follow the steps below:
- Download the FGTS app for free on your cell phone;
- After being installed, open the application and click on “First Access”;
- Read and accept the contract and, shortly after, enter your PIS number;
- At the end of this process, fill in the form with your personal data;
- Finally, create a password and click “Register”.
Thus, you will have created your access and you will be able to consult your balance when you enter the application with your CPF and password.
How to withdraw the retained FGTS
In short, there are some special situations in which the worker is able to withdraw his retained FGTS in whole or in part.
For example, when the worker is unfairly dismissed or when the account no longer receives deposits, these are times when he can withdraw the fund. But, there are others besides them that you get to know better below.
birthday withdrawal
This new type of withdrawal emerged recently and ensured that workers were able to withdraw part of their retained FGTS. That way, in the month of your birthday, the beneficiary can withdraw a percentage of your fund.
Anticipation of the birthday withdrawal
Another modality that came up with the previous one was the anticipation of the anniversary withdrawal. Thus, the worker is able to take out a loan from banks with the value of the birthday withdrawal as collateral.
Buying a property
Basically, the retained FGTS can also be used when buying a property. The value of the fund can be used to make a down payment on a property or to amortize future installments.
Retirement
In short, every citizen who retires, even due to disability, can withdraw their FGTS withheld in full and use it for their monthly support.
Others
There are also other specific situations in which it is allowed to withdraw your retained FGTS, such as when:
- The company you work for closes;
- A temporary work contract comes to an end;
- The worker is 70 years of age or older.
- The worker, his partner or child have serious illnesses;
- The temporary worker is not remunerated for 90 days or more;
- A common employment contract is terminated with an agreement between the worker and the employer.
In this way, in these specific cases it is possible to withdraw the value of the FGTS fund retained in the account.
What are the rules for receiving FGTS withheld?
In short, for the worker to be able to receive the FGTS withheld in his account, he must comply with some basic requirements that were established by MP 763/16.
Thus, based on it, it was defined that every worker who had an employment relationship until December 31, 2015 is entitled to withdraw his FGTS withheld if he did not do so when he left the job.
Generally, this happens when the worker himself resigns or when he is dismissed with just cause.
Thus, here it is also important to emphasize that access to the fund will only be possible if the beneficiary has worked with a formal contract for 3 consecutive years before or after the MP has been issued.
How many installments can you anticipate in the FGTS?
In short, the best way to withdraw part of your FGTS fund is by anticipating the birthday withdrawal. Basically, all beneficiaries of the fund have access to this modality and can withdraw their balance through it.
For this, you must have joined the birthday withdrawal in your FGTS. Thus, you will be able to access this withdrawal mode. To join it, just enter the FGTS application and choose the option to join the birthday withdrawal.
In this way, you will be able to anticipate the installments of this withdrawal. However, the amount of installments you can anticipate will depend solely on the financial institution you are going to carry out the process with.
For example, from Caixa Econômica Federal you can withdraw up to 5 installments. But in other places, such as Banco Inter, it is possible to anticipate up to 10 installments. To learn more about how this process works, just check out the content below!
