There are some industrialized foods that mark our lives, right? However, what you didn't know is that part of these products changed their formula throughout the year. Find out what they were!
It's almost impossible to find someone who didn't have a childhood marked by a lot of Nutella, Sonho de Valsa and Passatempo cookies. After all, these foods made children's minds for a long time and even do to this day!
But did you know that they are part of the list of foods that changed their formula and you didn't even know? So it is!
What few people know is that some of the junk food we used to eat as a child has changed its recipe. Yes, this is exactly what you read! There are a multitude of foods that have changed their formula over time and you didn't even notice - or noticed by the taste, but you didn't know exactly what it was.
In this introduction, we have already given some spoilers, but there are still many more processed foods that are not the same as they used to be. Curious to find out more? Then be sure to read this text of ours!
08. Nutella
The first on our list of foods that have changed their formula could not be any other than the one we mentioned right away in our introduction: Nutella.
Yes, the sweetheart of the little ants changed her recipe – and we're going to say it right away: for the worse!
If you've been a Nutella fan forever, you may have noticed that Italian chocolate hazelnut cream has gotten sweeter lately. So it is! This perception of yours is not the result of a more mature palate, but of the change of product formula. Nutella now contains more skim milk powder (8.7% vs. 7.5%) and more sugar (56.3% vs. 55.9%).
With this new recipe, the color became lighter and, obviously, sweeter. A spokesperson for Ferrero, the manufacturer of Nutella, confirmed the change and assured fans that the quality of the product remained the same.
Really? After all, to increase these two ingredients, it was necessary to decrease the percentage of hazelnuts and/or chocolate.
07. Sonho de Waltz
Who has never enjoyed a Milk Chocolate bonbon, Is not it? A chocolate-shaped classic, this bonbon is 100% Brazilian and was created by the food company Lacta in 1938.
However, what was successful nowadays has become a questionable product.
Like Nutella, you may have noticed that Sonho de Valsa is much, much sweeter.
Again, this perception is far from your taste buds, but rather the fact that changed the formula of the product without even informing their consumers.
The bonbon, which consists of a wafer shell, covered with two layers of chocolate and filled with cashew cream, was originally made with hazelnut and peanut cream.
In addition, the coating ceased to be “chocolate” and became “chocolate flavor”. And do you know what this means? Lots of hydrogenated vegetable fat!
You understand why we say that it has become a questionable product, right?
06. Hobby
And let's go to the last spoiler we gave in the introduction of our text about foods that changed their formula?
If so, then it's time to talk about the Passatempo cookie.
Yeah, she didn't escape either and had her recipe modified.
Certainly, the Passatempo wafer stirs up the affective memory of many of its consumers from the past, who are now adults.
After all, in the 90s, the different colored animals in each cookie were synonymous with happiness. Today, the story is different.
Incidentally, it is very likely that this happiness has turned into disappointment.
This is because the change in its recipe is noticeable, which had less salt, more filling, more vanilla and more hazelnut and chocolate flavor.
Unfortunately, this childhood flavor stayed in childhood and the new generation will never know how tasty the original Pastime was.
05. Fanta
Created and launched in Nazi Germany during World War II, the Fanta is a soft drink brand owned by the Coca-Cola Company.
Today, the drink is present in 188 countries and has more than 90 different flavors worldwide.
Although Fanta has an extensive range of flavors, the fact is that the traditional orange one has changed its formula over time.
Soda now has 25% less sugar and, as a result, contains far more artificial sweeteners.
But make no mistake! It wasn't just that the soda changed in taste, it also introduced a change in the appearance of the bottle. In May 2017, Fanta's look changed, with a new logo — created by hand-cut letters — and a new color palette.
04. Schweppes
Next to Fanta in the list of soft drinks that are part of the foods that changed their formula, we have Schweppes. It, which has been on the market since 1783, also underwent some changes to its original recipe.
After all, with 237 years of existence, it would be strange if it didn't pass, wouldn't it?
In the latest formula changes at Schweppes, the Coca-Cola Company, which also owns this brand, reduced sugar to follow public preferences and offer more options with fewer calories. On the other hand, added sweetener, which left the aftertaste in the drink.
Schweppes fans, on the other hand, did not approve of the change, since, according to them, they would buy the diet version if they wanted something without sugar.
They're not wrong, are they? And so, with Schweppes, we reach the final stretch of our text.
03. Strawberry Nesquik
Starting the top 3 of the foods that changed their formula, the Nesquik strawberry also had its recipe changed.
The company Nestlé, which owns the brand, followed market trends and also reduced the amount of sugar present in this powder for the preparation of flavored milk.
Nestlé had already reduced the amount of sugar in chocolate powder by 15% in 2015. However, regarding the strawberry flavor, the reduction reached 27%, almost 1/4 of the original amount.
That is, while some products increase the amount of sugar, as is the case of Nutella and Sonho de Valsa, others bet on the trend towards a healthier life.
But attention! if you believe that Nesquik's sugar reduction stopped there, know that you are wrong. Nestlé's spokesman said the brand is betting on a gradual sugar reduction for consumers to get used to.
In the future, Nesquik Less Sugar will also be launched, which will contain only 3.4 grams of sugar per dose (today, the product contains 10.6 grams).
02. Nescafé coffee
In Brazilian culture, coffee is always very present.
So present that it's almost impossible to find someone who doesn't like this drink that goes great with everything – from breakfast to work breaks, as it's a great ally for you. be more productive at home in times of home office.
One of the best-known brands in the field is Nescafé, the instant coffee belonging to the multinational Nestlé.
However, what you didn't know about the product is that in August 2015, the company announced a "new and improved" version.
The change was not accepted by fans over time, as they claimed that the new instant coffee tasted bad.
In its defence, Nestlé's spokesman said the recipe change reflected its customers' desire for a "fuller taste".
01. Lipstick
Finally, to end our list of foods that changed their formula, we have the Batom chocolate, immortalized by the “Buy Lipstick” advertisement.
Unlike the sweets above, in the case of this chocolate, the recipe has changed for the better.
In 2014, the product had its packaging and formulation modified to renew it, becoming a product with more milk in its composition.
With this, the Batom chocolate now has 65% more milk, which provides it with more flavor and a creamier texture.
Now that we've reached the end of the text, were you surprised by the foods that changed their formula?! Probably yes, since part of these products had their recipe modified without even informing their consumers. Good sign isn't it?
