15. Ebola: approximately 11,000 deaths

Probably one of the biggest pandemics in the world and most recent in the world before the coronavirus, the ebola caused an epidemic outbreak in West African regions between 2013 and 2016.

Those who followed the news at the time should remember that the disease caught the attention of the World Health Organization (WHO) and many countries.

Including, just as is happening now with Brazil due to COVID-19, some of them even decided to close their borders to people coming from that region.

Probably one of the world's largest and most recent pandemics in the world before the coronavirus, Ebola caused an epidemic outbreak in West Africa between 2013 and 2016.

The first time that cases of this serious disease caused by the virus of the same name were identified was in 1976 in the regions of Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

However, even if the virus existed in the past, no Ebola outbreak was as serious as the 2013-2016, when 11,323 people died of the 28,646 infected.

To get an idea of the severity of the disease, the number of deaths frighteningly represents almost 40% of the patients.

It is believed that a species of bat is the transmitter of the virus and the contagion happens when a person has contact with the remains of animals contaminated by it.
