Do you know about the Single Mother Assistance benefit? According to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, IBGE, Brazil has more than 11 million solo mothers. In other words, women who are responsible for taking care of their children, working and supporting the family.
All of this entirely alone. This often happens due to high levels of paternal abandonment. Therefore, mothers need to find ways to support their entire family.

Thinking about this difficulty, federal deputy Assis Carvalho (PT – PI) created Bill No. 2099/20. This project provides permanent assistance to all single mothers. Therefore, the aid would be aimed mainly at mothers who cannot find a job.
But after all, was the project approved? We will answer this and more questions in today's article. Check out!
What is Single Mother Allowance?
Firstly, the idea for this Single Mother Aid benefit came from the pandemic. This is because during emergency aid, families headed by single mothers were entitled to an amount of R$ 1,200.
In this sense, federal deputy Assis Carvalho's idea is to make this a permanent benefit. This way, solo mothers who cannot find compatible employment or are on a low income level have help.
In fact, it can be even more difficult for mothers to find a job. Because there is still a lot of prejudice against hiring mothers, especially solo mothers.
Also according to IBGE, in the third quarter of 2020, 2.5 million women left the job market.
However, it is worth remembering that the Single Mother Aid benefit is still being processed by the government. Therefore, it was approved by the Women's Rights Commission.
It must then go through the Social Security and Family Commission, the Justice and Citizenship Constitution Commission and also the Finance and Taxation Commission.
Furthermore, if approved by the committees, the project goes to the Senate. Finally, the aid needs presidential sanction to become permanent.
What are the benefits of Single Mother Allowance?
Basically, the main benefits of Single Mother Assistance are helping families supported solely by the mother. Furthermore, the project aims to guarantee the value of R$ 1,200.
However, it will still be necessary to decide on the value. As well as the source of financial resources that will pay the benefit.
So, as many women lost their jobs during the pandemic, the aid aims to help these families.
Who is entitled to assistance?
In short, to receive Single Mother Allowance, all you need to do is be a single mother and head your family. However, there are some specific conditions to receive the benefit. Check out:
- Being a single mother;
- Be 18 years or older;
- Have at least one child or minor dependent;
- Not have formal employment;
- Not receiving assistance or social security benefits;
- Have a per capita monthly income between half a minimum wage and three minimum wages.
It is worth noting that the government has not yet established the specifications. The project is still being processed by the government.
Therefore, some details such as where to receive the benefit will also be disclosed later.
However, like all government aid, the Single Mother Aid benefit must be distributed by Caixa Econômica Federal.
How do you know if you will receive Single Mother Allowance?
As we have already mentioned, Single Mother Assistance is still being processed by the government. Therefore, it is not possible to know whether you will receive it or not.
Firstly, you need to know whether the project will be approved. Afterwards, it will be possible to carry out some type of registration. As well as finding out if you will actually receive the aid.
In any case, the aid will probably depend on the Single Registry. So, see this other article on how to apply for Single Mother Assistance!
