What is the Brasil Sorridente 2023 project?
In our country, there are a series of procedures that are carried out by the SUS free of charge. However, the main objective in these cases is to guarantee a healthy life for Brazilians. Brasil Sorridente is another one of these projects.
However, Brazilians can obtain free dental care through the project. But it is essential to know in depth about this subject, so that you do not make a mistake when requesting this benefit.

Currently, this project has added thirteen more service units, bringing a total of 1,013 centers. The services provided to citizens are for more complex cases, such as root canal treatment and surgeries.
Furthermore, residents of nine states can request assistance through this project, which is yet another initiative from the state government.
Brasil Sorridente continues to provide specialized assistance to residents of the benefiting regions. And, in addition to having Dental Specialty Centers, the project has more than 20,000 teams designated to provide oral health care.
Nowadays, professionals provide daily care to patients, present in 89% throughout Brazil. This is the equivalent of more than 4,900 municipalities in our country.

Which cities have Smiling Brazil?
In total, there are 13 service units. However, 5 recently opened! See some of the regions it is serving for free:
- Holy Land, in Pará;
- Macaé, in Rio de Janeiro;
- Águas Belas, Pernambuco;
- Manaus, in Amazonas;
- Campo Grande, in Mato Grosso do Sul;
- São João da Boa Vista, in São Paulo;
- Angra dos Reis, in Rio de Janeiro.
However, to check whether your municipality or the neighboring one is serving the population, go to the nearest SUS service unit – Unified Health System. If there is one, enter your details to schedule your first appointment!
Finally, if there is a need, the dental professional will refer you to specific treatments. However, this will vary depending on the type of care the patient needs and the queue.
How can I get assistance through the program?
However, even though free dental care is something that all Brazilians are entitled to, not all regions of Brazil offer treatment through Brasil Sorridente.
However, the reason this still occurs is the lack of infrastructure necessary to serve the population, in addition to trained professionals.
Therefore, in order for you to earn the right to the Brasil Sorridente Program, follow the following steps:
- First, check if this program is being offered in your municipality;
- Go in person to the nearest UBS service unit – Basic Health Unit, known as “Postinho” or “Posto”, in some states;
- Don't forget to bring the original document with photo;
- If there is service in your region, simply schedule an appointment at the dental office and you will then be referred for treatment.
However, free care in the public health network in Brazil is available for various specialties, meeting numerous needs.
Still, remember to check and follow the procedures mentioned above, avoiding inconvenience.
What dental treatments does SUS offer?
According to the WHO, Brasil Sorridente is one of the programs that promote oral health that generate the greatest impact in the world. And this is extremely valuable, as the country was recognized, for many years, as one of the countries with the greatest lack of health in this area.
Furthermore, it is worth highlighting that the majority of procedures are carried out in mobile service units, with the aim of reaching the neediest population in Brazil.
However, one of the main procedures carried out in these care units is fluoridation, which consists of inserting fluoride into patients' mouths. This is one of the best ways to get rid of cavities.
But, through the Brasil Sorridente Program, citizens can benefit from the following dental treatments free of charge:
- Braces;
- Biopsy;
- Dental Surgery;
- Dental implant;
- Oral Exams;
- Cleaning;
- Extractions;
- Wisdom Removal;
- Prosthesis;
- between others.
However, to check whether service through this program is provided in your region, it is essential to check at one of the health center units whether this is a possibility.
Finally, it is important that the patient has the SUS card on hand, in order to schedule the service directly at the indicated location. This is the simplest and fastest way to earn the right to quality oral health.
