4 things you need to know now about your car!

The clutch is one of the main components of your vehicle's drive mechanism. The malfunction of this part will definitely cause a headache. So, we separate for you some useful and important tips for your everyday life.

What is the clutch and what is it for

The clutch is the vehicle component responsible for transmitting torque from the engine to the transmission, thus putting the car in motion. If the car is already in motion, the set is responsible for decoupling from the engine, allowing gear changes to be carried out.

In addition to these functions, the clutch is also responsible for dampening the torsional vibrations coming from the engine and promoting comfort and modulation when starting the vehicle. Because it is such an important component, some care is needed.

“Holding” the car on the clutch is harmful to your vehicle

You might even think you're doing the right thing, or just enjoy holding your car uphill with just the clutch pedal. However, know that you are destroying your clutch disc.

When you hold the car uphill using just the clutch, you are doing nothing more than rubbing the plateau disc enough to hold the weight of the car. The problem is that this friction wears out your car's clutch disc enormously, in addition to deteriorating it due to the heat generated.

Starting in second gear speeds up the clutch wear process

Another common practice of drivers that drastically decreases the useful life of the clutch is to “skip” the first gear when starting with the vehicle. Starting in second gear generates less torque, which is not always enough to put the vehicle in motion. As the vehicle's resistance is greater than the engine's torque capacity, the disc is rubbing against the pressure plate of the plateau, generating high wear and high thermal loads, deteriorating the set.

If your clutch pedal is hard it may be time to change the set

If you don't have any of the customs mentioned above, it might take longer, but eventually you'll need to change the clutch. And the time to change the set can be seen on the pedal.

Increased effort on the clutch pedal is directly linked to the wear of the set. As the disc wears out, the plateau begins to exert a greater load on the disc and the pedal effort to overcome this plateau load becomes greater and greater. Therefore, if your clutch pedal is getting harder and harder, it means that your set is high time to be changed.

If this happens or if you are in doubt, consult a trusted mechanic.
