Brazil is one of the countries with the best labor policies in the world. Therefore, PIS and PASEP are part of the benefits given by the government to workers. Incidentally, the PIS or Social Integration Program works for those who worked between 1971 and 1988.

That's because at that time companies deposited an annual amount in savings. PASEP, on the other hand, works in a very similar way. In this way, in today's article we will show you the difference between the two. Keep reading and understand better!

What is PIS and PASEP and how does it work?

As we mentioned at the beginning, the PIS or Social Integration Program is a benefit for those who worked in a registered manner in the period between 1971 and 1988. Therefore, at that time, deposits were made proportional to the length of service. That is, a very similar way to how the FGTS works.

In this way, the PIS was a form of contribution by the employer in relation to the employee's working time. However, currently PIS is no longer paid. In this sense, the benefit has already completed the transition to the FGTS.

The PASEP has exactly the same function and objective as the PIS. The only difference between the two is that PASEP is exclusive to public servants. In this way, instead of a private company making the contribution, it is the government itself.

Finally, the Federal Government released the money to those who worked between 1971 and 1988. That is, those who did not redeem it at that time had a new chance to recover the benefit. But in 2019 was the last time the government released it. In addition, they could only withdraw workers who are retired, or over 60 years old, or with a serious illness.

Moreover, currently the PIS and PASEP have become a salary bonus benefit. In this way, the registration is used to consult this benefit. In addition, the two benefits could also be redeemed with the quotas, as mentioned above.

What are the criteria?

In short, the criteria for receiving benefits related to PIS and PASEP are almost always the responsibility of the employer. This is because enrollment in PIS and PASEP, for example, is carried out at the time of hiring. See below the criteria to receive the benefits:
