Founded by former American president Thomas Jefferson in 1819, the University of Virginia (UVA) is considered the best public university in the United States, according to a survey carried out in 2016 by Princeton Review and USA Today. In fact, UVA is home to the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration, one of the best business schools in the world.

About UVA, there are two curious facts. The first is that, since 1987, it has been designated a world heritage site by UNESCO, being the only university in the United States with this distinction. The second curiosity concerns a fatality that occurred on its campus. On April 16, 2007, the educational institution was the victim of an attack coordinated by Korean student Cho Seung-Hui, which left a total of 33 dead and 15 injured. This fact became known as Virginia Tech massacre, the largest committed to a university in the United States.
