18. Memorial do Genocídio
Quem assistiu ao filme Hotel Ruanda deve se recordar do pano de fundo da história, que foi um dos maiores genocídios da história da humanidade: o genocídio de Ruanda, também conhecido como genocídio tutsi. O massacre ocorreu entre 7 de abril e 15 de julho de 1994 durante a Guerra Civil de Ruanda, matando, num período de 100 dias, entre 500 mil a um milhão de ruandenses, sendo cerca de 70% da população tutsi.
Para entender de perto este terrível passado ruandense, diversos turistas se dirijam ao Genocide Memorial Centre, cuja tradução em português é Memorial do Genocídio. O local se situa no subúrbio de Gisozi, onde um número impressionante de 250 mil pessoas foram enterradas numa sepultura coletiva. Se você se interessou por visitar o memorial, é bom saber que precisa ter estômago forte, já que o museu acolhe os restos mortais dessas milhares de vítimas do genocídio.
