19. ESMA Memorial Site Museum

As most people know, the dark period of military dictatorship did not only reign in Brazil. In fact, it existed throughout South America, such as in the countries of Chile and Argentina. Both suffered major massacres, just like in our country, in which thousands of people were killed for defending democracy.

In the specific Argentine case, the cruelty was barbaric. In Navy Higher School of Mechanics, the former ESMA, located on a busy avenue, close to a train station, shops and a football stadium, in other words, right in front of everyone's eyes, was a clandestine center for detention, torture and extermination. Today, this horrifying place has the “Museo Sitio de Memoria ESMA”, where you can see up close the cruelties of Argentina's murky past.
