What is Sisu and how does it work?
First, the Unified Selection System is only opened twice a year.
Well, it takes students to universities and public institutes, where they will have access to quality education to be ready for the job market after graduation.
To participate in this selection, you must take the Enem (National High School Exam), which is the only way to participate in Sisu.
Once you find out your average on this exam, you just have to wait until the admission date arrives.
There are vacancies in all courses in Brazil, from Medicine to History, that is, you can go to any graduation, whether humanities, exact or biological.

Here are the most competitive courses in Brazil, understand how much you need to hit the entrance exam to be approved.
What is Prouni and how does it work?
Prouni (University Program for All) was developed by MEC (Ministry of Education).
Through it, many students get scholarships in private higher education institutions.
This is the main difference between Sisu and Prouni. While the first takes the student to a public university, the other helps students to enter private colleges.
Just like the other government program, to get a Prouni scholarship, you must take the Enem exam.
In addition, registration also only opens twice a year, once in February and once in June.
Your score on the National High School Exam will be used to compete with other people for a scholarship.
What are the advantages of Sisu?
Before making your decision between Sisu or Prouni, it is essential to understand the advantages of each one, let's start with Sisu, they are:
- It goes to the best universities in Brazil: some of the Brazilian public universities are among the best colleges in the world, for example, USP;
- You can participate in paid scientific initiatives: professors always have research in progress and you can participate in them if you show interest;
- It has almost no cost while studying: students can live in republics, greatly reducing the cost and still receive financial aid depending on their financial situation.
Because this government program is excellent, competition turns out to be very high, especially if you want to study medicine or dentistry.
What are the advantages of Prouni?
Prouni also has many positive points, let's go to the main ones:
- You can get a scholarship at a private university in the region where you live: there are many educational institutions that are part of the program and you can easily get a scholarship at one close to your home;
- Less competition: depending on the course you are looking to take, there will be much less competition than Sisu;
- Decreases the monthly fee: you can get a partial scholarship, where the course fee is reduced by 50%. However, if you are selected for the 100% you will not spend anything.
Now that you've discovered the main benefits of Prouni and Sisu, let's get to the process of subscribing to them.
How to register in Sisu?
Well, if you are going to participate in Sisu, you should pay attention to the registration period. On the first day, access the Sisu website. There, you will log in (these are the same data you used to register for Enem).
Soon after, you will be asked for your mobile number and email. Pay attention when filling out, it is through these contacts that you will be contacted if you are selected.
So, you need to choose where you are going to apply. You can choose two courses, or even the same, but at two different universities.
For example, medicine at UFRJ and nutrition at UFPR. However, nothing prevents it from being Medicine at UFRS and Medicine at UFMT. After that, it's hopeful to be approved.
If you have succeeded, you need to see Sisu where it shows all the documents you need to present and you will already be enrolled at the university.
How to sign up for Prouni?
The step-by-step procedure for enrolling in Prouni is not very different from Sisu. Go to Prouni's website.
When you get there, you will login with the information you used to be able to take the Enem test.
You only need to choose two courses (in the same way as in Sisu). However, they will be private universities and there are many options. Well, they are private educational institutions from all over Brazil.
After being approved, you need to prove your income. In the case of a full scholarship, the salary per person in the family cannot exceed 1.5 minimum wages.
However, for the partial it can be up to 3 minimum wages per person in the household.
Did you check the income? After that, the scholarship will already be applied to your course tuition.
Sisu or Prouni: which is the best option?
Sisu and Prouni are great alternatives for you. As much as people often want to go to a public university, it can be unfeasible due to the cost of travel or distance from their home.
So the best depends on your situation. For example, a young person with financial stability can go to a public university without any problems. In this case, Sisu is the best.
However, in the case of the person who needs to work and cannot travel and stay away from the family, we recommend using Prouni.
So, analyze your situation well, especially the finances and goals you have. In this way, it is possible to find the answer.
