DPVAT Insurance: Medical and Supplementary Assistance, Permanent Disability and Death
In Brazil, the number of accidents that occur with motor vehicles on land is increasing, for various reasons, whether due to driver error or pedestrian inattention. So, do you know what DPVAT insurance is and how it helps these people?

What is DPVAT Insurance and how does it work?
It is payment for personal injuries caused by motor vehicles on land, or their cargo, to people transported or not, with the aim of providing assistance and support to victims of traffic accidents in Brazil, regardless of who is at fault. by the accident.
In this case, the number of victims of the accident is irrelevant, because each person involved must make the request individually to receive the amount that is rightfully theirs, including minors and incapacitated people.
In the case of minors and incapacitated individuals, they must be represented by their respective legal representatives and attorneys.
Furthermore, you can use compensation to reimburse medical and supplementary care expenses, permanent disability and death.
Furthermore, it is intended for victims of traffic accidents, whether they are drivers, passengers and pedestrians or their beneficiaries, as long as it occurred in Brazil from 01/01/2021 and was caused by a land-based motor vehicle.
What documents are needed to apply for insurance?
To request DPVAT insurance, the documents required change depending on the type of compensation requested. So, here are the documents you need:
For permanent disability:
- Identity and CPF of the victim and any attorney or legal representative
- Medical and hospital care report up to 1 day after the accident
- Proof of address of the victim or beneficiary and any attorney or legal representative
- Police report issued by competent police authority
- Report from the Legal Medical Institute (IML) of the location of the accident, informing the extent of the victim's physical or psychological injuries and also their state of permanent disability or declaration of impossibility to carry out an official IML report
- Medical reports of injuries suffered in the accident, with medical indication of permanent (definitive) disability.
For Medical Assistance and Supplementary Expenses:
- Identity and CPF of the victim and any attorney or legal representative
- Police report issued by competent police authority
- Proof of address of the victim and any attorney or legal representative
- Medical and hospital care report up to 1 day after the accident
- Medical reports, treatment reports and medical prescriptions
- Proof of expenses (receipts, coupons or invoices) for services and medical expenses caused by the accident
In cases of Death, you must send identification documents in addition to the police report and hospital report, also attaching the death certificate.
This way, see which of these you fit into and separate all the documents to make the request online or in person.
Among all these documents, it is important to highlight that the victim, the beneficiary, or legal representative or attorney must provide the CPF number, and must contact the Federal Revenue Service if they do not have one.
How to request DPVAT Insurance?
To request DPVAT insurance, you can do so through the DPVAT Caixa app, available in the Play Store and App Store, or by going in person to one of the Caixa branches.
To make the request through the application, you must install the DPVAT CAIXA app and log in using the same username and password already used in other CAIXA applications and register.
After that, click on “I want to request my DPVAT compensation” and then on “Start request”. Therefore, read and accept the Terms and conditions of use and the Privacy Policy.
Then, enter the accident data and select the type of compensation, whether it will be Medical and Supplementary Assistance Expenses – DAMS, Permanent Disability – IP or Death and fill in the data of the victim and beneficiaries.
Then, just attach all the requested documents and authorize the payment to be made to your Caixa digital savings account.
In this way, the request can be made by the victim himself, by the beneficiaries or by an attorney or legal representative. In this case, you must present a power of attorney by public or private instrument, according to the CAIXA model.
On the other hand, you can also request DPVAT compensation at a CAIXA agency.
To do this, go in person to one of the CAIXA branches and present the necessary documents and you will receive the number to track your request!
For the analysis and payment of amounts owed, the deadline is up to 30 days from approval, but, if there are pending issues, the deadline stops and after resolution, it starts again.
