Built by King Ramses II during his reign, the site, located in southern Egypt, includes both the Great Temple and the nearby “Little Temple”.
The Abu Simbel Temples are two rock-cut temples, one dedicated to Ramses II and the other to Nefertari, his first wife.
Carved into a sandstone cliff, the Grand Temple's main entrance is flanked by four statues of Ramses himself, with images of family members at their feet.

08. Angkor Wat, Cambodia
Angkor Wat is a famous 12th century temple located in Cambodia, which was inspired by the mythological Mount Meru, where Hindus believe the ancient gods live.

Located at the archaeological site of Chichén Itzá, Mexico, the Sacred Cenote was an important site of rituals, sacrifices and offerings for the Mayans.
It is believed that their victims of human sacrifice were thrown into this natural sinkhole, given that jewelry, ceramics and even human bones have already been found there.
An important piece of information to give you is that the cenotes were considered sacred by the Mayan people, being used as portals of communication with the gods. So there's a reason the Cenote Sagrado was what it was.

05. Stonehenge, United Kingdom

04. Borobudur, Indonesia
Located in Java, Indonesia, Borobudur is an iconic Buddhist temple, built between the 8th and 9th centuries during the Syailendra Dynasty.
The UNESCO World Heritage Site is made up of three tiers and 72 small stupas – dome-shaped structures containing relics usually related to Buddha – and a larger central stupa at the top.
The structure is specifically designed to represent the path to enlightenment: each level represents a level of the Universe, and the higher you climb, the closer you are to nirvana.
03. Boudhanath, Nepal
Just like Borobudur, Boudhanath, a popular pilgrimage site for Tibetan Buddhists in Nepal, is one of the beautiful holy places around the planet that you must visit one day.
However, the similarities don't stop there!

The bottom base represents earth, while the dome represents water and the tower represents fire.
The upper tower represents air and everything above is “beyond space”.

And the best: very close to us, as it is located in the municipality of Bom Jesus da Lapa, in Bahia, 796 kilometers from the capital Salvador.
The Sanctuary of Bom Jesus da Lapa is located in a limestone cave, which was discovered by the Portuguese Francisco Mendonça during his pilgrimages through the hinterland.
Today, the place is famous for its pilgrimage, which takes many faithful to the streets of the city and is considered the third largest in Brazil.
01. Christ the Redeemer, Rio de Janeiro
Finally, of course, we could not leave out our example from the introduction: Christ the Redeemer.
Inaugurated in 1931, on October 12, the work of Jesus Christ with open arms took 5 years to complete and today is one of the best known postcards of Rio de Janeiro and, perhaps, of Brazil.
Certainly, to see Christ the Redeemer up close is to feel a little closer to God, even if the person is not a Christian. It's feeling embraced by something bigger, inexplicable.
