Its operation is simple and since its creation, Bolsa Família has helped lift more than 3.4 million people out of extreme poverty and more than 3.2 million out of poverty.
Therefore, in this article you will learn more about the program and see how it works in practice!
What is Bolsa Família and how does it work?
Bolsa Família is a Brazilian government income transfer program for families living in poverty or extreme poverty.
However, its objective is to help families that are in a situation of vulnerability and poverty to receive a benefit, which has a fixed value, so that it is possible to cover their expenses (food, housing, among others).
In this way, the government makes a monthly payment, on specific dates, into an account for the family representative.
Since its creation, Bolsa Família has helped lift millions of people out of extreme poverty, becoming internationally recognized for its results in combating poverty.
Who is entitled to the benefit?
Namely, Bolsa Família is intended for families in situations of poverty and extreme poverty.
To be entitled to the benefit, in addition to the appropriate income bracket, you must be in the Single Registry database.
In order to be included in the database, families must register with a Social Assistance Reference Center (CRAS) or city halls in their respective cities.
Mandatory rules
However, to be eligible for the Bolsa Família Program, it is necessary to meet two mandatory rules.
Firstly, the monthly per capita family income of up to R$$ 218.00 per person. In addition, they must be registered in CadÚnico.
Conditioning rules
In addition to the mandatory rules, it is necessary to comply with the conditioning rules (which are rules that condition obtaining the benefit).
Therefore, the rules are:
- Children (between 4 and 5 years old) must have at least 60% of school attendance;
- Children (from 6 years old) and young people (up to 18 years old) must have at least 75% of school attendance;
- For those who have not yet completed Basic Education, attendance starts at 75% at school;
- For pregnant women, prenatal care should be carried out regularly in public health units;
- The entire family must be up to date with their vaccinations, according to each age group.
Therefore, if the rules are not followed, the benefit may be suspended or not approved.
How much is Bolsa Família worth?
In 2023, the value of Bolsa Família will continue to be R$$ 600.00 per month.
However, families with children up to 6 years old will receive an additional R$$150.00 per child. This amount is limited to two children per family.
It is also possible to have an additional R$ 50 per child or adolescent between 7 and 18 years old or per pregnant woman.

However, it is from this registry that the government selects the people who fit into the program and thus allows them to receive it.
Therefore, to register with CadÚnico, simply pre-register on the app and then go to a nearby Social Assistance Reference Center (CRAS) or go to your city's city hall.
Documents required for registration
