15. Salto Veloso – IDHM: 0.784

With only 4,718 inhabitants, Salto Veloso is a small municipality located in the midwest of the state of Santa Catarina. Considered one of the 50 best places to live in Brazil thanks to its HDI of 0.78 (the maximum allowed is 1), this city could not be left out of our list.

First on our list of the best cities in Brazil with less than 10,000 inhabitants, Salto Veloso has only 4,718 inhabitants and an incredible HDI of 0.78.

The biggest source of economy in Salto Veloso comes from the meat industry, in addition to the timber industries and family farming. There, JBS Foods is present, considered one of the largest food companies in the world, operating mainly in the processing of beef, pork, lamb and chicken. In the rural sector, the main economic activity is pig farming, with an actual herd of 60,000 head, followed by dairy cattle, present in practically 40% of the properties.
