13. Curitiba (PR)
Capital of the state of Paraná, the city of Curitiba was chosen in 2018 by Isto É magazine as the best place to live in the entire Brazilian territory thanks to the high quality of life of its inhabitants. Not surprisingly, it also occupies its well-deserved place on our list of the best cities to retire in Brazil.
With a very high range of human development (when the location is evaluated above 0.800), Curitiba reaches the HDI of 0.823, with the longevity index pushing the average upwards. However, despite its good performance, the city still has many challenges ahead to guarantee a good quality of life for its residents, such as in the areas of security and income distribution.
